We love a mix of adventure and relaxation when we travel. After a day filled with ziplining, hiking, biking or exploring a new town, we like to take a break and enjoy the outdoors with a picnic. We try to pack a picnic for at least one day during each trip. It is a great way to unwind from the excitement of our latest adventure and discuss our thoughts.
Although our family has mountain bikes that we love to take out on trails, I also love to cruise around new towns. My husband’s favorite is to take his mountain bike up hills and down into the canyons when we go on camping trips. After all the off-roading, I convince him to explore on a leisure ride with me. Adventure is exciting but to really take in a new town I like to go slow and absorb what I see.
Packing a picnic for after your adventure can be as simple as a nice bottle of wine and delicious fresh baked bread from the local bakery. We always talk about our highs and lows for each excursion we partake in. There is no better way to make notes about our trip than sitting on a picnic blanket, sipping wine and enjoying the shade.
Sheep Thrills® Pinot Grigio reminds me of our trip through Italy. This wine has a refreshing taste with hints of floral and fruit.
Watching the sunset over Venice before setting off to Florence. Then from Florence we ventured into Montepulciano where we had the chance to see many vineyards.
Unfortunately, Rome was as close as we got to Abruzzo, which is where Sheep Thrills® is sourced. Abruzzo’s unique climate gives this wine a fruit forward taste that’s decidedly lush, refreshing, and some may even say flirty.
Sheep Thrills Pinot Grigio has delicate, floral and tropical fruit aromas that make it the go-to vino for all occasions and palates – seafood, sushi, white meats, cheeses, and yeah, adventure.
I never miss a chance to enjoy some cheese with my wine. My favorite is gouda cheese. The slightly smoked taste pairs well with the fresh delicate white wine.
The fresh strawberries bring out the hints of fruit in the Pinot Grigio. When taking a picnic make sure your wine has been chilled for several hours. During the summer the wine can heat up quickly. If you have some ice packs available to you, toss those in your basket to keep the wine cold.
A travel trick is to get a wash cloth wet and put in the freezer. You can then fold this semi-frozen cloth in the bottom of your basket.
How do you relax after your adventures? What is your favorite item to bring to a picnic?
