On our recent tour across the El Camino Real de Los Tejas we spent one night in Nacogdoches, Texas thanks to the Nacogdoches Visitor Bureau. We had the pleasure to stay at the Mockingbird Suites near the historic brick streets of the downtown square. My only complaint is we didn’t get to stay longer than one night. This property was beyond beautiful.
The original, front half of the house was built in 1899 by renowned German architect, Deitrich Rulfs. The guest suites are located in the recently remodeled area of the home that was added in the 1920’s and doubled the size of the house. They recently completed a two year restoration of the home.
The entry way is gorgeous. Although you can tell everything has been restored, it still has the tradition historic feel. I love that the most.
The wood floors and walls with the large pillars and white staircase compliment each other. There is more than one chandelier hanging in the home that provides a more elegant view.
The suite we stayed in was at the top of the back staircase. We didn’t get a chance to tour the other rooms but heard great things from the other guests. I know when we return we will request the LaNana suite again.
As soon as you enter the door to the suite you walk into the main bedroom. This has the larger bed and TV.
Besides being impressed with the bright and esthetically pleasing decor, I immediately noticed how modernized it was. If you have ever stayed at a historic B&B then you probably know how they are often darker and have a more antique atmosphere.
With the remodel of the Mockingbird Suites, they included the touchscreen thermostats even!
The second bedroom is a little smaller but perfect size for one guest. It also has a dresser for clothes.
Our suite had one bathroom but it was a decent size. I love the seafoam color scheme and the stain-glass window was a nice touch. There was plenty of room to store our bathroom essentials on the shelf near the sink and the water pressure in the shower was perfect.
Right on the opposite side of the second bedroom is the kitchen and dining area. The table sat four and the kitchen was very roomy for a suite. There was a coffee stand on one side with everything you would need, a small refrigerator and a full size sink with cabinets.
Hands down my favorite part of the entire LaNana suite at Mockingbird Suites was the sun room. This doubles as a family room and lounge area with a beautiful teal couch. The best part is all the windows! The room had windows the entire length of the three outer walls.
I could see myself sitting there with my breakfast to look out at the lovely view or even reading. This would make a great place to sit and work from my laptop as well.
The sun room overlooked the backyard. I could keep an eye on my car in the parking lot out back. When returning downstairs the quickest exit from our suite was through the backdoor which they gave us a combination to access the lock.
There is a covered porch and a table with chairs to enjoy the fresh air.
We truly were sad to leave.
I highly recommend checking out the Mockingbird Suites in Nacogdoches, Texas. You can find them on Facebook where the full address and business phone number is available to check rates and availability for your stay. They do not yet have a website since their renovation was just completed. They are slowly starting to accept guests until their official grand opening.
Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas and located along the El Camino Real de Los Tejas. Check out some of our favorite shops in the town square of Nacogdoches.

This is beautiful! I would love to go here. I’ve honestly never heard of this place, but it’s exactly the kind of retreat I’d love to take with my husband for some R&R. The restoration they’ve done is breathtaking!
