Recently I was invited by the Nacogdoches Visitor Bureau on a complimentary trip to explore their town. Nacogdoches is the oldest town in Texas and filled with history. One of my favorite things about the town was the quaint historic square. There were so many cute boutiques that were unique to the town. Shopping in Nacogdoches was a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
First, take a stop in the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau. To my surprise they had a basement filled with several small exhibits and history lessons.
This large mural can be found inside the visitor center. They offer brochures for things to do around the town and nearby, as well as literature on the founding city.
Shopping in Nacogdoches
You can spend days exploring all the stores that line the streets of the Nacogdoches Town Square. It is easy to get lost inside some of the boutiques.
General Mercantile
The man that owns the General Mercantile can be found inside repairing string instruments. We were able to see him in his element.
This store looks small from the outside but once you walk in you will be amazed by all the items offered. From instruments and music sheets to old wooden toys and home goods.
Interested in homemade laundry detergent? They sell that by the bag.
I really loved the variety of handcrafted wooden kitchen utensils. They were beautifully carved.
Twigs & Tin
Twigs & Tin has so much to offer. We fell in love with this little boutique. The variety of goods make it the best stop to shop for locals and tourists.
These wooden necklaces were adorable. You can share your Texas pride or wear a Nacogdoches necklace as a souvenir.
They also had several areas within the store that showcased products made by locals. These handcrafted wooden ink pens and razor handles were being sold by a local man.
I couldn’t leave Twig & Tin without purchasing one of these candles. Not only are they hand-poured but the wick is wooden and crackles when it is burning, similar to real firewood. I purchased two jars, the Hot Cocoa scent and the Bergamot White Tea.
While walking around the square there were several areas to stop, rest and take photos. You can check out the many statues around the town and beautiful gardens.
Yarnia
This little shop was adorable. It is a great place to visit for locals shopping for yarn and supplies for their homemade crafting.
Besides supplies, you can also purchase clothing accessories or take a class. In the back of the shop they have a classroom where they host lessons for beginners and advance learners.
All of the store owners and staff were extremely friendly and outgoing. We loved shopping in Nacogdoches and plan to visit the town again soon.
When visiting a new town do you like to purchase location-branded souvenirs or something unique from your destination?

Stopping by from Welcome Home link-up. I had to visit when I saw your title. My SIL lives in Nacogdoches, but I’ve never spent any time in the downtown area. You’ve inspired me to check it out. Looks like there are some really cute stores there.

I am a Canadian who was always fascinated by history..especially about Texas..always promising to visit there….but your plaque about
Nacogdoches, and the beautiful artifact sites presented me with the idea of not just visiting the Alamo…but taking in a broader Texas journey..thank you, you have really captured a moment of history.
