Does the thought of fighting throngs of college co-eds with your children in tow make you cringe? Spring break is one of the most popular travel times for families and college students, but the vacation styles and wants vary drastically.
Instead of sticking to the tried and true spring break destinations, why not consider a new vacation spot this year?
Las Vegas, Nevada
Las Vegas is not the first place that most people think of for a family spring break vacation but this location has a lot of activities to keep all ages happy. There are some amazing magic and performance shows that kids of all ages enjoy, roller coasters, an aquarium, and hands-on exhibits like Bodies and CSI: The Experience. When you’re ready to get out of the city, just a short distance away you can visit the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead.
Phoenix, Arizona (and surrounding areas)
Looking for somewhere warm with lots of swimming and outdoor activities? Phoenix and surrounding areas fit the bill! True, there’s no ocean but there are loads of swimming pools. One of the unique experiences families can have is to visit a dude ranch. If you’re imagining dusty cabins and hours of horseback riding – think again. There are dude ranches for every budget level and for all interests. Turn off the electronics and get back to nature!
Oregon Rainforest
Did you know Oregon is home to a rainforest? This is one of the last pieces of a temperate rainforest that stretched from Alaska to central California. There’s almost 6,000 acres of protected wilderness in the area known as the Hoh Rain Forest. While it’s possible to camp here, you might prefer dryer accomodations like the Kalaloch Lodge as the area receives up to 170 inches of rain every year. You might not want to take a swim in the ocean but hiking, waterfall discovery, and natural springs won’t disappoint either.
Florida’s Forgotten Coast
Never heard of the forgotten coast? That’s because it’s been forgotten! The coastline on the northern panhandle of Florida on Apalachicola Bay has been largely abandoned for the more developed areas on the southern Gulf and Atlantic coasts. If you’re after a Florida vacation but aren’t interested in fighting crowds then this is the place for you. Not to mention the costs will be much less. Enjoy a relaxing beach vacation and some indulge in as much Gulf seafood as you can stomach. What could be better?
Puerto Rico
Many people cross Caribbean destinations off their potential vacation lists because they assume the costs are much more than continental US spots. But, this is not always true. In many cases they can even be less expensive. You don’t need passports to visit Puerto Rico and having an amazing Caribbean experience is possible for a very affordable price.
What are some of your favorite hidden destinations for spring break getaways?

These are such great suggestions. I really enjoy seeing Gods creation. He has made some spectacular views for us and things to do. The older I get the more I truly appreciate this. Thank you so much for sharing
